How do I find the time?

I was recently asked by one of my readers how I find time to live my life as fully as I do.  I believe that the most important factor in my planning is my desire to live life to the fullest.  With this desire, and a commitment to carrying it out, anything is possible.  A positive attitude and a strong work ethic are of supreme importance.  I am quite sure that anyone following my career, my books, or my blog already has this desire.  We are a people constantly seeking fulfillment and meaning, and without that innate desire, none of us would be here looking for inspiration on how to fulfill that desire.

The future, Next Exit

The future, Next Exit

I spent many years working very hard in traditional employment.  I have a strong work ethic, and I believe that work is important.  That being said, I think that some work is more important than others.  My strength in inspiring people has paved the way to my success, from my inspiration of new franchisees at Quiznos to my inspiration of women across the world in my book Womenopoly, I feel that my contribution to the world is to inspire everyone that I can to lead the life that they’d most like to live.  In my book, I outline clearly how to get your true goals down on paper, and how to reinforce them every day to help people achieve them.  If you’re not quite sure what you’d like to do, you need to start there.  You don’t have to use the methods outlined in Womenopoly, but I promise that it will help you!  If you know just what you’d like to achieve in your life, then the most important thing you can do is to spend your time wisely.

Given that my strength is inspiration, should I be spending my time filing taxes, sending bills, or mowing the lawn?  I am a valuable person, and my time is scarce.  All of us have to choose what we’ll work on, in our lives, but many are so caught up in their daily lives that they never stop to evaluate their workload and really decide on the work that they feel only their unique contribution can benefit.  This is largely because people are focused on the past.  Our relationship to the past, and to the present, is a very interesting one that is discussed in my new book “Be.”  For now, I’ll simply say that in order to fully embrace your future (and your goals for the future) you have to abandon the past and embrace new ways of thinking and working.

work_weekIn the book 4 Hour Workweek by Tim Ferris, he advocates outsourcing your personal obligations, and as many of your unimportant professional obligations as possible.  If you have something valuable to contribute to the world, you will find that you can easily support your army of workers who will help you to complete your less important work.  Things like home maintenance, basic business tasks like accounting, and basic personal tasks like car washes, dog grooming, etc. can all be “outsourced” to give you more time in your life to take care of the important things like making strategic decisions for your business, networking, and life balance.

Once you’ve cleared your life of tasks that do not require your personal attention, then you will find that you have an enormous amount of time that you never had before.  You must sit down and prioritize the remaining items based on the goals you’ve set forth for yourself.  You may find yourself abandoning some items that are not contributing towards your personal and professional goals, but my guess is that you’ll find that you have enough time for anything you want to do in your life if you work at making it happen!
